Defiant was built in Holland and according to local folklore she arrived in England carry fugitives from the Germans during the second World War.

Her life after that is unknown however she eventually was found for sale on Canvey Island and bought by a man determined to restore her to her former glory and use her as a pleasure boat. She was brought north by road right up to Warkworth almost on the Scottish borders on the east coast. Here Steven tried hard to restore Defiant but the shear amount of work needed and failing health meant that it was not to be.
