 PADI Open Water Course
This course is for absolute beginners and allows you to dive anywhere in the world to a depth limit of 18mts.
It is the most world widely recognised certification and is a popular & exciting program for Learning to Dive. This is where discovering the underwater world adventure begins!!!!
Here at Stoney Cove we give you the knowledge and practical experience with safety in mind for you to go on and enjoy beautiful coral reefs, historical ship wrecks and even diving with sharks if that’s your cup of tea.
So if you are looking to learn to Scuba Dive for your ultimate adventure, the PADI Open Water program is for you.
- All students must fill in a PADI Medical Questionnaire prior to participation.
- Be able to Swim 200 metres non-stop & tread water for 10 minutes.
- Minimum age is 10
- Children aged 10 & 11 will be required to enroll on the PADI Open Water Referral Program , 12 to 15 year olds will be awarded the PADI Junior Open Water certification.

Knowledge Development is based on a self-study method, prior to the course, allowing you to study in your own time, at your own pace. Home study is backed up by 5 Academic sessions with a PADI Instructor, to ensure full understanding of essential diving theory, which is conducted in our highly equipped and fully air-conditioned classrooms. During your 5 Confined pool sessions, you will learn the skills necessary to dive safely and with confidence. Perfecting buoyancy and learning to clear your mask of water are among the fun and exciting skills that your PADI Instructor will teach you in our on site pool heated to a tropical 29 ◦c .
The Diveschool@Stoney Cove offers extra pool time for additional skills practice and familiarisation of Dry-Suit use during the winter months.
Waterman ship skills must be demonstrated to the satisfaction of the instructor prior to the Open Water phase of the course. You don't need to be a strong swimmer as long as you can complete a 200-metre swim and a10 minute tread water.
There are 4 Open Water Dives, during which you will demonstrate the skills that you have mastered during your confined pool sessions. These dives are normally conducted over two days, here at Stoney Cove. This will be your first real underwater world experience under the guidance of our PADI professional team.
