PADI Open Water Course

The PADI Open Water course is the first step into your diving adventure. It allows you to dive anywhere in the world down too 18 meters providing that the conditions are equivalent or better than the water you trained in.

Prerequisites:

  • Due to site rules minimum age is 12
    • Children age 12 to 15 will be rewarded the PADI Junior Open Water certification.
  • All students must fill in a PADI Medical questionnaire prior to participation.
  • All students must be able to swim 200 meters non-stop and tread water for 10 minutes.

What you learn:

The PADI Open Water course consists of 3 main phases:

  • Knowledge development (online, home study or classroom) to understand the principles of scuba diving.
  • Confined water dives to learn the basic scuba skills.
  • 4 Open Water dives to review your skills and explorer.

Knowledge development is based on a self study method, prior to the course, allowing you to study in your own time at home. Home study is backed up by 5 academic sessions with a PADI instructor, to ensure full understanding of essential diving theory, which is conducted in our highly equipped and fully air-conditioned classrooms. You learn things like how pressure affects your body and how to choose the right scuba gear.

During your 5 Confined pool sessions, you will learn the skills necessary to dive safely and with confidence. Perfecting buoyancy and learning to clear your mask of water are among the fun and exciting skills that your PADI Instructor will teach you in our on site pool heated to a tropical 29°c. Waterman ship skills must be demonstrated to the satisfaction of the instructor prior to the Open Water phase of the course. You don't need to be a strong swimmer as long as you can complete a 200 meter swim and tread water for 10 minutes.

There are 4 Open Water Dives, during which you will demonstrate the skills that you have learnt during your confined pool sessions. These dives are normally conducted over two days, here at Stoney Cove. This will be your first real underwater world experience under the guidance of our PADI professional team.
