It’s our opinion that diver’s take good care of their equipment and certainly expect it to perform well. This is not an unreasonable expectation, however, to get the best out of your gear, it does need a regular service, especially if it used infrequently. The following is an extract from a HSE report, we have included it here, not as scaremongers, but just as a reminder of how important the performance of our dive equipment is.
"BRITISH DIVERS are risking their lives by failing to maintain and service their regulators adequately. Almost half of the regulators tested during a three year investigation into diving deaths would not pass the EU standard for regulator performance through "lack of maintenance, servicing, cleaning and incorrect setup". According to the report, more than 25% of the studied fatalities could be directly attributed to equipment faults, the bulk of these in regulators."
