Whether purpose-sunk as an artificial reef for scuba divers, or lost as the result of an accident, wrecks are fascinating windows to the past. Ships, aeroplanes and even cars are fascinating to explore and usually teem with aquatic life. Each wreck dive offers a chance for discovery, potentially unlocking a mystery or spying something others have missed. The PADI Wreck Diver Specialty course is popular because it offers rewarding adventures while observing responsible wreck diving practices.
If you’re at least 15 years old and have earned a PADI Adventure Diver certification or higher, you can enrol in the Wreck Diver Specialty course.
Your training starts by reviewing guidelines for researching and respecting wrecks. You’ll also learn:
- Safety considerations for navigating and exploring wrecks.
- Surveying and mapping a wreck.
- Using penetration lines and reels to guide exploration.
- Techniques to avoid kicking up silt or disturbing the wreck and its inhabitants.
The first dive of this PADI Specialty Diver course may credit as an Adventure Dive toward your Advanced Open Water Diver certification – ask us for more information about credits towards the Advanced Open Water.
What will you learn?
You will complete the knowledge review portion of the course at home before the course starts
At the start of your course, you will spend time in the classroom checking your knowledge reviews.
Then you will have four Open Water dives in Stoney Cove as well as time spent on the surface practising skills before putting those new skills into practice underwater.
How long will it take?
The course lasts two full days.
What will you get from it?
As a PADI Wreck Diver, you will learn the correct procedures for wreck penetration, lining-out and mapping skills as well as develop a passion for researching wrecks and wreck conservation. You will gain valuable experience of diving around wrecks and have the opportunity to go inside.
You must be 15+ years old to enrol on this course at Stoney Cove
You must be able to swim and be medically fit to dive
PADI Adventure Diver (or equivalent qualification)
All equipment hire is included in the price, however, you will get much more enjoyment from the course if you get your own mask and snorkel. You will also need a dive light a slate, underwater compass, line and reel.
